Welcome to the B'Stard-Opaedia![]
This is a new space dedicated to The New Statesman, a political satire broadcast between 1987 and 1992, and followed by various shorts, specials and live tours. The show follows the dastardly exploits of Conservative MP Alan Beresford B'Stard, portrayed by Rik Mayall. The show satirizes the UK Conservative Party of the 1980s under Margaret Thatcher's leadership and, in the final series, that of her successor John Major.
ADMIN - Typical of political satire shows, in-jokes about political commentary were common and to anyone who did not live through Thatcher's tenure, these jokes may now be overlooked. Efforts will be made to highlight and explain these for each episode.
