The Bishop of Haltemprice is a minor character in The New Statesman, and is played by actor Donald Nithsdale. He appears in the Series One episode "Happiness Is A Warm Gun."

Overview[]

Following Alan's success in passing a bill in the Commons that would arm the police, the Bishop protests openly about the bill during a religious service in which both Alan and the mastermind Sir Malachi Jellicoe are present.

Later on, during a meeting between and Sir Malachi at the Hangman's Knot Inn, Sir Malachi is convinced by Alan that the Bishop is the Devil, causing the now obviously mad Sir Malachi to set off on an assassination mission during which the Bishop is almost killed.
